Swedish Massage

Swedish Massage is a very relaxing style of bodywork. Its purpose is to promote relaxation and improve circulation by manipulating the muscles with long, gliding strokes that follow the direction of bloodflow returning to the heart.  It combines oils or lotion with an array of strokes such as rolling, kneading, and percussion.

Swedish massage is best known for helping people relax and for repairing overworked or injured muscles. Having regular Swedish massages will enhance your circulatory system, meaning that your muscles, tissues and other parts of your body will get more oxygen delivered to them each day.

It also stimulates your lymphatic system, helping the body to rid itself of stored toxins and strengthening your immune system. The elimination of these toxins and metabolic wastes shortens recovery time after intense exercise.

Your nervous system also benefits from Swedish massage, which is why it's so closely associated with relaxation and pampering. In fact, regular massage is often recommended as part of an overall stress management program.

It is important that you drink at least 8oz of water immediately after your massage to help your body flush out the lactic acid that's just been released. You'll also want to stay well hydrated for the next 24 to 48 hours to help your body continue to eliminate toxins.

John F Barnes Myofascial Release

Myofascial release is a  safe and effective form of soft tissue therapy intended to eliminate pain, increase range of motion, and rebalance the body. It does this by applying gently sustained pressure into the connective tissue restrictions slowly releasing the bonds that exist between the fascia, muscles and bones. This essential “time element” has to do with the viscous flow and the piezoelectric phenomenon: a low load (gentle pressure) applied slowly will allow a viscoelastic medium (fascia) to elongate.

What is Fascia?

Fascia is a densely woven 3 dimensional connective tissue that exisits from head to toe uninterupted in the body like the the yarn of a sweater.. It lines and infuses with every structure in the body..muscles, bone, nerves, veins and arteries as well as all the internal organs. When fascia is healthy it can be very stretchy and move without restriction. When physical or emotional trauma, inflammatory responses and /or surgical proceures are experienced the fascia tightens and loses its pliability impacting the comfort and function of the body. These restrictions can cause symptoms of pain, affect our flexibility and inhibit our ability to withstand daily stress.

Myofascial Release is performed directly on skin without oils or creams. This enables the therapist to accurately detect fascial restrictions and apply the appropriate amount of sustained pressure to facilitate release of the fascia. It is best to not apply any body/face lotions before a treatment.
